You probably mean John Wetzel. Played for VT and in NBA.

Graduated 1966. Right after his NBA career he coached the VT women's team in the late 1970s but that was around the time women's bb at Tech was transitioning from club status to official sport status. He may have preceded Carol Alfano?? He wound up coaching in the NBA after that and was head coach of the Suns 1987-88.
